Food Supply

I am not some weird radical that buys everything organic actually I have only bought a few "organic" things that I can remember and that was because they looked good. But here lately I have started to try and go a little bit more towards growing my own stuff or raising my own stuff. The first thing that really set me off was lettuce. A couple of years ago there was a huge thing about a recall from all this lettuce and about the same time green onions. Then came the video about the chicken farms and what they were doing to chickens and our eggs. Even more recently there was the overall meat thing. It has become so hard to get decent basic food. I have started out slowly a few chickens, some geese, and ducks. These are easy to raise and cheap to get started on. I have also started a few vegetables and fruits. Everything it seems we buy anymore is so crappy and even dangerous to our health. Also it really is fun to know that what we grow is for us. The learning and making mistakes is all just part of it. To think that our ancestors bought very few things and what they did lasted a very long time. So I am starting to learn to make more things on my own and stretch things out a bit.
